Nikon introduced Wednesday six Coolpix point-and-shoot digicams,
including one that marks the company’s return to a waterproof camera since the
classic Nikonos film camera line and a model that marks Nikon’s first attempt
at offering a 3D still shooting feature.
The new models will all
start shipping in September and include the AW100 ($380 suggested retail) weather-proof
Coolpix, the P7100 ($500) advanced manual point-and-shoot, and four S series
models including the S100 ($300), S1200pj ($430), S6200 ($230) and S8200 ($330).
Among the introduction class highlights is the Coolpix AW100,
which is billed as a feature-rich waterproof (to 33 feet), freeze proof (to 14
degrees) and shockproof (from up to a 5-foot drop) point-and-shoot designed for
adventure seekers and extreme-shooters. It shoots Full HD 1080p video and
includes a 16-megapixel backside illuminated (BSI) CMOS sensor and Expeed C2
video processing with strong low-light performance.
Also added is a new GPS geo-tagging function. Users can shoot and
track their route with the included Nikon ViewNX2 software, Nikon’s picture
sharing site mypicturetown.com or Google Earth to pinpoint the exact picture
locations.
The camera will also track location while not in use so the user
can show an accurate map of their travels up the mountain or kayaking down a
river. An included E-compass lets the user find his bearings via the LCD
screen.
The compact body design measures 0.9-inches thin and 6.3 ounces
light.
The camera supports a maximum ISO of 3200 and includes a 5x wide angle
zoom-Nikkor ED glass lens (35mm equivalent of 28-140mm) and Vibration Reduction
(VR) to minimize camera shake.
The AW100 also includes a 3.0-inch, bright LCD screen with Clear
Color Display and anti-reflective coating. It will be available in choice of black,
blue and orange.
Like its predecessor, the P7000, the new CoolPix P7100 was
designed to offer advanced photographers a compact camera option with a variety
of creative manual controls.
It includes a 10.1-megapixel CCD image sensor, Expeed C2 image
processing and will capture 720p/24 fps HD movies. Images can be stored as
JPEGs or RAW files.
Other features include a 3-inch vari-angle tilting LCD screen,
new special effects and an improved response time enabled in part through a newly
enhanced AF system.
The camera can capture full resolution JPEG images at up to 1.2
frames-per-second (fps).
The camera includes a 7.1x wide angle optical zoom-Nikkor ED
glass lens (35mm equivalent to 28-200mm), with built-in neutral density (ND)
filter, and optical Vibration Reduction (VR).
The ISO sensitivity ranges from 100 to 3200, but can also be set
to Hi 1 at full resolution (ISO 6400 equivalent).
Low Noise Night Mode and a Noise Reduction Filter contribute to
improved low-light shoot quality.
New Special Effects and
Filter Effects include Zoom Exposure that automates a tough shooting technique
to create dynamic images with a slow shutter. Consumers can also choose the
Defocus Filter or Cross Process for creative color tones.
A built-in High Dynamic Range (HDR) function can shoot in
High/Low Key, Sepia and Painting Modes.
A quick menu dial on the top of the camera controls ISO
sensitivity, white balance, advanced bracketing functions, my menu, picture control
and image size.
Additionally, the camera’s Zoom Memory function enables the
selection of a desired focal length during shooting.
The new S series offerings are highlighted by the Coolpix S8200
pocketable super zoom camera with up to a 14X optical zoom-Nikkor ED glass lens
and a compact body (measuring 1.3-inches deep).
To help capture images in challenging lighting conditions, the
S8200 includes a 16.1-megapixel backside illuminated (BSI) CMOS sensor for fast
and responsive speed in both well lit and low-lit conditions.
It includes high-speed continuous shooting, which can capture
five shots at up to six frames-per-second (fps), and a pre-shooting cache that
records images before releasing the shutter.
Other features include a 3.0-inch (921,000-dot) LCD display,
1080p HD video capture, a host of Special Effects (when shooting movies and
stills) and Filter Effects (in playback mode for still images), including
Selective Color and Fisheye Effect. It will be available in black, silver and
red.
The Coolpix S6200 features 10x optical zoom-Nikkor ED glass lens
in a 1-inch-thin body containing a 16-megapixel sensor with Vibrate Reduction 720p
HD movie recording, and a large 2.7-inch
LCD. It also carries a collection of Special Effects functions. It will be
available in red, pink, silver, blue and black.
The Coolpix S1200pj is Nikon’s next-generation combination
point-and-shoot camera and mini video projector.
The camera includes a 20-lumen projector that will connect to a
computer, iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to playback stored video files as well as
images taken by the built-in camera section.
The S1200pj adds illuminated icons and raised controls for easier
access, will project an image up to 60-inches wide, and includes a
14.1-megapixel camera with a 5x optical zoom, and HD 720p movie capture with
stereo sound capability. It also includes a 3.0-inch LCD screen and Special
Effects and Filter Effects packages.
The S100 is billed as a stylish compact Coolpix with a large
3.5-inch, 820,000-dot OLED touch screen and an enhanced user interface.
Features include a 16-megapixel BSI CMOS sensor, 5x optical zoom,
Full HD (1080p) recording with stereo sound, 3D image recording capability and
Special Effects modes.
It will ship in a choice of red, black, purple and gold.
