East Coast Audio Show In Works

Ormond Beach, Fla. – A high-end consumer audio show will return to the East Coast in March after a multiyear absence if a Florida retailer’s plans come to fruition.

Audio Expo North America (AXPONA), a newly formed company, is organizing a March 5-7 AXPONA 2010 show in Jacksonville, Fla., where high-end suppliers will display stereo and multichannel audio components to consumers invited to attend from around the country. The show is sponsored by Stereophile magazine, which will promote the show to consumers nationwide in conjunction with AXPONA-led public relations efforts, said Steve Davis, an AXPONA principal and owner of Palmetto Audio, a high-end audio store here in Ormond Beach.

The Rocky Mountain Audio Fest, held in Denver every year beginning six years ago, attracts consumers from across the county, but “there hasn’t been anything of its kind on the East Coast for three years next spring,” he said. A lot of consumers would like an East Coast option, he added. The Home Entertainment show was the last East Coast show promoted nationally, and it was organized by the company that at the time owned Stereophile, he noted.

Like that show, the AXPONA 2010 will set aside a limited number of hours exclusively for the trade and media to attend before consumers are allowed inside. The trade-only period is on Friday, March 5, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. The show will be held at the Wyndham Riverwalk Hotel in Jacksonville, Fla.
