4/01/2009 12:28:00 PM Eastern

Philadelphia — Giant cable TV multi-system operator Comcast said Tuesday that it is among the first to offer PBS’ HD On-demand programming service to digital cable subscribers across the country.

The announcement coincided with the disclosure that the multi-system operator has just reached the 11 billion views milestone for its On Demand services.

“With 11 billion views behind us, it's clear that On Demand forever changed television, giving consumers unprecedented control with the convenience to watch what they want on their own schedule,” stated Derek Harrar, Comcast video services general manager and senior VP. “Highly acclaimed programming from PBS is one more example of family-friendly content on our On Demand service that just looks great in HD.”

Popular PBS series to be included on the PBS HD On Demand service include: “Antiques Roadshow,” “Nova,” “Materpiece,” “History Detectives” and “Frontline.”

Programs, including new episodes of shows available the day after they air, can be found On Demand under “HD On Demand” and “History and Nature.” PBS said content choices will be updated each week. Viewers will access PBS content through a co-branded menu button recognizing a local PBS station in each market.
