Best Buy Gets New Optoma 1080p Projector

5/01/2012 12:45:39 PM Eastern

Fremont, Calif. - Optoma
launched Tuesday the HD23 DLP projector, billed as a brighter FullHD 1080p
model directed at the home-theater audience.

Optoma's HD23 ($999 suggested retail) FullHD DLP projector with enhanced brightness is available exclusively through Best Buy.

The HD23, which is
being sold at a $999 suggested retail starting this month both in stores and
online exclusively through Best Buy, features 2,500 ANSI lumens of brightness.

"The increased brightness
of the HD23 gives end users much more flexibility regarding setting this up in
their homes," said Jon Grodem, Optoma product marketing senior director.  "Not all home-theater environments can enjoy
complete darkness, and the added power fulfills this type of need."

Grodem said the
exclusive arrangement with Best Buy resulted from a careful analysis of Best
Buy's customer base and preferences. "It's been Optoma's goal to fulfill both
its partners' and end users' needs."

The HD23 lists a 5,000:1
contrast ratio and offers many of the features found on more expensive home-theater
projectors.

It incorporates a Texas
Instruments' 1080p DLP chipset and BrilliantColor technology.

Connectivity
options include two HDMI, one VGA, one set of component and one set of composite
video inputs.

Also included is a
12-volt trigger to signal other components to turn on/off.

The HD23 features
native 1920 by 1080p pixel resolution with additional support for UXGA, WXGA,
SXGA+, SXGA, XGA, SVGA, VGA resized, VESA, PC and Macintosh video formats. It
can also accept common global video inputs and video formats: HDTV, EDTV, SDTV,
NTSC, PAL and SECAM.

The unit's
projection lamp is rated to last up to 4,000 hours in Standard mode or 3,000
hours in Bright mode.

A rapid shutdown
feature is incorporated to further reduce energy costs.

The HD23 is backed
by a one-year parts and labor warranty, with the lamp being covered for 90
days.

The projector weighs
6.4 pounds and can be mounted on a table or ceiling.

Operating noise is
listed at 29 db.
