iPad Mounts Take Front Seat At SEMA

11/07/2011 12:02:00 AM Eastern

LAS VEGAS — The SEMA show was home to multiple incar
entertainment introductions, and accessories manufacturers
naturally got in on the game. In the case of this
game, iPad mounts were the popular name.

Bracketron took the wraps off the Twist360, a universal
tablet headrest mount. The mount features the company’s
TwistGrip, a rotating handle joined with a multi-purpose
stand.

The Twist360 has a Velcro headrest strap and can
rotate — as its name indicates — a full 360 degrees. It’s
reportedly compatible with all tablets up to 6 inches by 7.5
inches and 0.55 inch thick, which includes the iPad, iPad
2, Galaxy Tab, Motorola Xoom and Amazon Kindle.
The Twist360 comes in white or black for $39.95. It’s
currently available through Bracketron’s website and will
ship to retailers soon.

Bracketron also showed off its universal tablet headrest
mount, which is engineered to clamp to the driver or passenger
front-seat headrest. Features include access to all
device buttons and controls, and multiple viewing angles.

It’s currently available for $39.95.

The company also said it would soon have a universal
tablet holder that installs into a vehicle’s cup holder, but
few details were given. It’s scheduled to become available
in December.

Scosche Industries unveiled the BackStage Pro II
headrest mount for use with the iPad 2. It’s designed to
attach to the headrest of any car, allowing the tablet to
slide into the detachable mount.

“While typical DVD headrest mounts are still a popular
choice, we are no longer limited to only viewing DVDs and
listening to music in the car,” said Kas Alves, executive
VP, Scosche Industries. “Users have portable devices like
their iPad that can do much, much more, and we asked
ourselves, why not have those capabilities in the car?”

The aluminum BackStage Pro II reportedly works with
IR headphones and also features a headphones jack. It
can charge the iPad 2 while connected, Scosche said.

Suggested retail is $149. It’s currently available.
