Home Satellite Radio Debuts From Six Brands

Here’s a look at new satellite radio products expected to be unveiled at the show for the home:

Audiovox: The XM-ready XRC200 desktop hi-fi system incorporates AM/FM tune, CD player with MP3/CD and WMA/CD playback, alarm clock and 50-watt amp. It also has 30 presets for each of the AM, FM and XM bands.

The company is also joining a small but growing number of competitors offering amplified speaker docks for satellite radio tuners. The $99.95-suggested DS700XM operates on AC or rechargeable flat lithium-ion battery. Output is 2×2 watts. An antenna is built-in.

JVC: The company is offering its first XM-ready HTiB and shelf system. The XM-ready HTiB is the TH-D6 with DVD player, iPod dock, HDMI output, USB host and ability to deliver 5.1 surround when all speakers are placed in front. The MX-KC58 two-channel minisystem features iPod dock and three-disc carousel CD changer. Pricing was unavailable

LG: In launching seven HTiBs due in March, the company is expanding its selection of XM-ready HTiBs to four SKUs from one. Three new models getting XM-ready ports are the LHT799, LHT774, and LHT754, all with iPod docking; 1,080i up-scaling HDMI output; and a USB port capable of playing back music, video and digital images stored on a USB device. Pricing was unavailable.

Panasonic: The company’s first XM-ready HTiB and microsystem shipped last September and here at CES; all five new HTiBs will feature the XM port at targeted MAPs of $299 to $999. Two new minisystems and a new microsystem are also in the works with XM-ready capability at targeted street prices of $179 and $249 for the minis and $99 for the micro.

Pioneer: Three A/V receivers feature XM/Sirius-ready connectivity, and they happen to be Pioneer’s first Sirius-ready receivers. The three are the $299-suggested VSX-817, $399 VSX-917 and VSX-1017 at an unannounced price. All feature XM Neural Surround. The former two ship in April, the latter ships in June with THX Select certification.

The optional SiriusConnect tuner is a suggested $49 with antenna, and it’s due in May. The XM mini tuner with antenna is $59the latter’s ship date was unavailable.

Sherwood: The company is expanding its selection of home receivers that are XM-ready from one to five in its Sherwood and Newcastle lines beginning at a suggested $399. Two Newcastle models are the company’s first with XM Neural Surround: the $1,000-suggested R-872 and $1,500-suggested R-972.
