Updated! Bentonville, Ark. — Walmart is the latest, and largest, mass merchant to present a curated selection of home-automation products in its stores.
Beginning this month the discount chain is rolling out connected-home displays to 1,700 stores nationwide. The fixtures will be located within the stores’ electronics departments and will vary in size, holding from 10 to 20 different items, a company spokesperson told TWICE.
Walmart presently offers a limited selection of connected-home items online, including D-Link’s wireless smart plug and Z-Wave switches and control modules by GE.
The spokesperson confirmed that the new displays will include The Home line of security cameras from iON America, while Insteon said its line of kits, motion sensors, LED bulbs, cameras and dimmer switches are also part of Walmart’s connected-home assortment.
“Our presence in Walmart stores marks the arrival of mainstream adoption of connected home devices,” said Insteon CEO Joe Dada. “We are proud that Insteon is leading the charge and are thrilled to see our products on Walmart shelves as we enter into the busiest shopping season of the year.”
Walmart follows national chains Lowe’s, Home Depot, Staples and Best Buy in merchandising home automation products within formal, connected-home sections.
