Tech Data Up And Running Again

Four days after Hurricane Irma slammed into Tech Data’s headquarters town of Clearwater, Fla., the global IT distributor is back in the saddle after being sidelined by power and network outages.

“Tech Data is fully operational,” corporate communications director Brian Kosoy reported to TWICE. “Our Clearwater headquarters – and all of our locations – are open for business as usual.”

The storm’s ravages, which have left millions without power throughout Florida and neighboring states, kept the company’s Clearwater and Miami locations closed and its eBusiness system offline for two days. No physical impact to the facilities was reported, save for some exterior wind damage at the Miami offices.

The distributor’s rapid recovery mirrors that of Conn’s, the big-box CE, majap and furniture chain, which reopened 23 stores, two service centers and a corporate office little more than a week after Hurricane Harvey halted operations along the Texas coast.

Tech Data is one of the world’s largest IT distributors, selling over 150,000 different devices from more than 600 vendors in some 100 countries worldwide. The company reported a 40 percent increase in net sales for its second quarter ended July 31, to $8.9 billion, and a 2 percent gain in net income, to $47.5 million.
