Seido To Ship Waterproof Galaxy S III Case

Houston — Seidio next month will begin shipping its first waterproof, shock-proof case for the Samsung Galaxy S III.

The new Obex, Latin for “barrier,” features a two-piece polycarbonate and thermoplastic polyurethane construction that exceeds the military standards test (MIL-STD-810G) for device protection, which evaluates the case from 6-foot drops at multiple angles.

The Obex also earned an IP68 protection rating against water, which demonstrates the enclosed device is protected against complete submersion for 30 minutes in 1-meter-deep water. Waterproof membranes add a layer of protection over the phone’s speakers and microphone but do not diminish sound quality, Seidio said. A built-in screen protector promotes touch sensitivity and clarity. Rubber silicone stoppers are designed to keep external elements out of the headphone and USB ports and are easy to remove when needed.

The Obex will ship with a holster fitted with spring clip locking lifts and an adjustable swivel belt clip which allows for seven rotating angle settings.

“The Obex is a game-changer in smartphone protection,” said David Chang, CEO of Seidio. “We carefully designed this case with the best materials available in order to ensure the S III would be protected against even the harshest conditions without losing the phone’s functionality. After rigorous testing, we are confident the Obex lives up to its name in every way.”

The Obex will be available in October at a price yet to be determined. The Obex line will also be available for other major smartphones in the next few months, Sedio said.
