Mega Group Gearing Up For Next Week's Spring Show

Independent dealers to descend on New Orleans again 3/20/2017 06:00:00 PM Eastern

March Madness has a different meaning in New Orleans, where the Crescent City will have hosted no less than two major buying group shows by month’s end.

Coming in one week after the Nationwide Marketing Group’s conclave is Mega Group USA, the 3,200-store marketing and merchandising organization for independent furniture, CE, appliance and bedding dealers.

The fun begins next Monday, March 27, with Mega’s annual vendor-retailer golf tournament at TPC Louisiana, followed by a welcome reception at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside.

The membership gets down to business on Day Two, with 46 training sessions and seminars on everything from finance and leadership to securing share from hhgregg and Sears. Keynote speakers will include Synchrony Financial’s George Anderson, who will stress boldness and innovation in business, and Kevin Lao of Google, who will help dealers harness the power of search.

The group will also introduce two as yet unnamed vendors representing two new-to-Mega categories that fall within the organization’s “whole-home strategy,” teased executive VP Mallory Parker.

“Both categories offer products with a built-in customer base because of the recognized brand names. We believe these lines will create a new wave of traffic to our retailers as well as present new profit opportunities through incremental sales,” she said.

The focus shifts to the New Orleans Convention Center on Wednesday and Thursday, where, following a Mega Madness limited-buy, show-special sale, 100 vendors will exhibit their latest wares on the show floor.

“This week has been designed to energize our retailers and provide a plan for grabbing more share in each of their markets,” explained Mega president Rick Bellows. “The retailers that come to these shows are focused on growing their businesses, not just by buying better, but [by] truly learning what it takes to merchandise and market effectively. There is so much value offered to retailers through group membership, and this show lets members get a taste of all the help that is available to them.”
