Paramount, Warner Releasing First Dolby Atmos Titles

San Francisco — Paramount Pictures and Warner Bros. will release the first Dolby Atmos-enhanced titles this fall, Dolby Labs announced.

The films, to be made available on Blu-ray Disc and Walmart’s Vudu streaming service, will feature Dolby’s enhanced, multidirectional soundtracks. The audio process requires Atmos-equipped A/V receivers and speakers to realize the multidimensional effect.

Paramount will be first out of the gate with an Atmos-encoded Blu-ray version of “Transformers: Age of Extinction,” which will be sold in combo packs starting Sept. 30. Additional packaged and streaming titles will be available later this year, the studio said.

Warner will follow with its own Atmos offerings via Blu-ray and Vudu. No titles or release dates were announced.

Atmos will also be demonstrated in retail stores beginning in October. Participating chains will include Best Buy (within its Magnolia Home Theater and Design Centers) and hhgregg, along with such independent specialty dealers as Crutchfield and Bjorn’s, Dolby said.
