The ControlFreq

Oxnard, Calif. — Scosche has begun shipping its ControlFreq car stereo receiver, which uses an app to turn a smartphone or other Bluetooth-equipped device into a touchscreen remote for the car.

The receiver can also play music via a CD player, USB port, SD card slot and aux in. An AM/FM RDS-enabled tuner displays artist, song or station information from supporting FM broadcasts, Scosche said.

Other features include 40x4 watts max power internal amplifier, three preamp RCA outputs (front/rear/sub) for adding external amplifiers, and a detachable faceplate.

The app, which carries the same SoundFreq name, lets users change tracks, set EQs and switch between sources. It also has a built-in mic for hands-free calling.

Suggested retail is $139. The app is free and can be found in the Apple App and Google Play stores.
