Elan Updates Control-System Features

Petaluma, Calif. — Elan Home Systems launched the latest software updates for its Elan g! Entertainment and Control System.

The 6.2 software update for the multi-room-audio and home-automation system adds a new on-TV display, control from Apple’s OSX computers, and weather-based event triggers, among other things.

The update changes the control interface displayed on TVs to be consistent in appearance and operation with Elan’s touchscreen interfaces and the company’s g!Mobile apps for Android and iOS devices, the company said. The update also lets consumers in all parts of the world access and display weather forecasts for their geographic area.

Another weather-related update lets dealers program specific home-automation events based on local weather forecasts, including temperature, humidity and wind. Based on the forecast weather events, for example, the system will open or close motorized window shutters and shades or turn on or off irrigation controls.

The update also streamlines the personalization process, simplifying programming for integrators, the company said.

In the past year, other updates added electronic door lock integration, automatic importing of programming from connected third-party components, an Android g!Mobile app and more drivers for controlling third-party components.

The company said it plans over the next six months to offer updated and new third-party drivers.
