Price Is The Issue

While eMachines may look at the higher-end features packed into its entry-level T1090, retailers said it sold for one reason: price.

"Price, price and only price is why people buy them. It is only a price point issue," said Brian Asarnow, PC Buyer for BrandsMart U.S.A., Hollywood, Fla. "These are people who are only interested in a bare-bones computer without a DVD-ROM drive or anything."

BrandsMart uses eMachines entry-priced PCs to draw in customers who will then step up to a pricier model that will deliver a better margin to the chain.
