LAS VEGAS -Cybiko will introduce at CES this week several wireless Internet solutions for its teen-oriented Cybiko handheld, along with an MP3 add-on card for the device.
The company said this is its first RF wireless network card for a youth-oriented organizer. Called the CyWIG, the device will allow instant connection to the Web. It plugs into a PC, via an RS 232 port, and then automatically recognizes a Cybiko within 450 feet.
The CyWIG LAN adapter provides a peer-to-peer network and allows kids to go online via the Cybiko while parents are online on the home's PC, the company said. The CyWIG will work with other PDAs and is expected to ship in March with an estimated street price of less than $100.
Cybiko is also debuting at CES a CDPD wireless modem for the handheld. It has an interface for e-mail and instant messaging, and it allows Internet access. Also, it will enable any additional Cybiko units within 450 feet to connect to the Web.
The modem is expected to be available late in the second quarter with a street price of about $200. Cybiko has not yet chosen a carrier for the modem service, but expects it will be offered with a monthly fee for unlimited use.
An MP3 card and a Mobile Internet Kit from the company will also be at CES. The MP3 CyCard slides into the bottom of the Cybiko device, allowing users to download MP3 music, perform some manipulations and send melodies wirelessly to their friends.
The MP3 CyCard also has an FM receiver and built-in microphone so teens can record voice messages, and it allows multitasking so users can listen to music and perform other functions on the Cybiko such as games. Its built-in recorder/microphone allows voice messages to be wirelessly transmitted to other Cybikos.
Other features include a USB PC connector that can be used for all Cybiko downloading activities; a flash memory slot for increased memory capacity; 30-minute playtime of music or audio with a 32MB flash card; prevention of sound skipping with semiconductor memory; file management; and CD-to-MP3 converter software.
