Uniden Engineers Another First-to-Market Feature in Radio Scanner Technology

Ability to scan and monitor EDACS ProVoice trunked systems now available

IRVING, Texas, Jan. 13, 2016 — Uniden America Corporation announced today another breakthrough in scanner technology. Uniden has been a development leader in radio scanner engineering and is the only scanner manufacturer offering the ability to scan and monitor EDACS ProVoice trunked radio systems. This unique feature is available in Uniden’s flagship BCD436HP and BCD536HP scanners.

ProVoice systems currently cover more than six percent of the U.S. and Canadian population in several major markets, which is more than 20 million people. Before this revolutionary addition to Uniden’s scanners, the public has been virtually shut out from monitoring these public safety radio systems. This enhancement provides inexpensive direct access for the media, local agencies and the public, so everyone can be better informed and prepared.

“This is the biggest event in radio scanning since the introduction of our HomePatrol series in 2009 that allows you to program local channels by simply entering your zip code,” said Paul Opitz, director of Product Development and Marketing for Uniden and the chief architect of the scanner line. “We are committed to making radio scanner technology easier to use while continuing to add capabilities never before seen in the industry.”

Channels used for felony warrant service, surveillance and similar tactical information are commonly encrypted to protect law enforcement. In many areas, general dispatch channels are not encrypted, which allows the public to be an integral part of local safety efforts.

Uniden has pioneered advanced scanner features, including:

  • First to offer Trunk Tracking capabilities to scanners.
  • First to add the ability to monitor digital radio systems.
  • First to incorporate the RadioReference database of all known U.S. and Canadian radio channels into scanners.
  • First to have zip code-based programming for local channels.
  • Only manufacturer that allows GPS channel selection control for hands-free programming.
  • Only manufacturer with Close Call® RF Capture that instantly detects and tunes to nearby transmitters.

This $50 upgrade is available to all owners of Uniden’s BCD436HP and BCD536HP HomePatrol professional series scanners by registering their product at Uniden scanners are available at and other resellers nationwide.
