iF DESIGN AWARD 2015: Sennheiser Receives Gold for URBANITE headphones, RS models and CX series honored with awards as well

Old Lyme, Conn., March 2, 2015 – Sennheiser was honored with three awards at this year’s prestigious iF DESIGN AWARDS competition. The new wireless headphone models RS 175, RS 185 and RS 195 as well as the audio specialist’s ear-canal headphones CX 1.00, CX 2.00, CX 3.00 and CX 5.00 received the coveted iF Label in the product design category. One of the outstanding submissions of the competition, Sennheiser’s URBANITE range received the iF gold award. Altogether, 53 international jury members evaluated 4,783 contributions from 53 countries in five categories. 

Gold for the URBANITE range
For its robust, fresh design, the iF DESIGN AWARD’s expert jury awarded one of the highly sought-after iF gold awards to the Sennheiser URBANITE series. “A ‘feast for the ears’ that has all eyes upon it: the optimal technical performance of Sennheiser’s URBANITE headphones is rounded off with a minimalistic, accentuated design. The high quality materials including textile elements, the individual color scheme and the robust urban style combined with perfect craftsmanship as well as technical innovation constitute the special charm of this product.“, claimed the international jury.

The gold award was presented to Sennheiser during the iF design award ceremony held at Munich’s BMW Welt on 27 February 2015. Commenting on the award, Oliver Berger, Global Design Manager at Sennheiser said: “We are very proud to have received this accolade as the iF gold award is only presented to the very best submissions of the year. The expert jury’s recognition confirms our belief that our URBANITE is more than just a trend product.”

The URBANITE headphones, available since the end of 2014, showcase an urban style and deliver a rich bass sound for an intense clubbing experience on the move. The models’ stainless-steel hinges, their unique folding mechanism and superlight ear pads ensure durability and great comfort. The color-coordinated, fabric-covered headband of the On-Ear model URBANITE as well as the Over-Ear variant URBANITE XL rounds off the outstanding style of the series which was developed in collaboration with the Munich-based creative agency design affairs.

New RS models and CX series awarded iF Label
Sculpted in clean, elegant lines, Sennheiser’s new RS models RS 175, RS 185 and RS 195 were awarded the iF Label in the product design category.

The jury were impressed with the range created for digital wireless home audio which debuted at CES 2015 in Las Vegas. The headphones and transmitters which were designed in cooperation with the Kiel-based design studio Brennwald Design feature a discrete, premium aesthetic that aligns form and function in stylish black. The headphones’ around-ear design provides excellent levels of comfort for even long periods of use, making them the perfect companion to home audio video systems.

Sennheiser’s ear-canal headphones CX 1.00, CX 2.00, CX 3.00 and CX 5.00 were also awarded an iF Label. Made for users who demand superb sound quality and comfort when listening to music on mobile devices, the range delivers excellent sound in a lightweight and portable design. All CX headphones are supplied with a range of four sizes of earsleeves for a perfect fit. The range was designed in collaboration with NextOfKin Creatives.

The iF DESIGN AWARD is one of the most prestigious design competitions in the world. The iF International Forum Design GmbH annually awards the iF Label for outstanding design achievements. This year, 4,783 contributions were submitted in the disciplines of product, communication and packaging design as well as interior architecture and professional concepts. In the category of product design, the international jury of experts assessed the submitted contributions against the criteria of design quality, finish, choice of materials, degree of innovation, environmental impact, functionality, ergonomics, visualization of intended use/intuitiveness, safety, brand value and branding as well as universal design.
