ARLINGTON, Va.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The CEA Foundation, a charitable organization affiliated with the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), announced it will continue to support Lighthouse Guild with a second annual grant for The Henry A. Grunwald Technology Center. The Center is comprised of a dedicated team of technology professionals who provide instruction, training, demonstrations and forums, both on-site and virtually on the web, utilizing cutting-edge technologies to significantly enhance the lives of people who are visually impaired.
“With new technologies coming to market all the time, there is a strong need for technology instruction across a variety of demographics, especially among seniors and people with vision impairments. The technology center, with this grant, will continue to support the CEA Foundation’s mission by undertaking the challenge of helping individuals utilize the potential and reap the benefits of today’s innovative technologies,” said John Shalam, chairman of the CEA Foundation.
Peer-to-peer training workshops enable successful users of today’s most popular devices to serve as role models, share knowledge, and provide encouragement to others. Lighthouse Guild will use this model to work with clients at The Henry A. Grunwald Technology Center to combine technology training with social networking in a supportive, comfortable atmosphere. The grant will also allow The Grunwald Center to implement a Smart Service for people who may need help with accessibility.

The Grunwald Center’s professional technology staff and volunteers provide people who are visually impaired with instruction on a variety of assistive equipment and devices. Additionally, instructors tutor clients on basic and advanced uses of cellular phones, electronic tablets and other technologies, all of which help people to better navigate their environments, perform daily activities, remain connected to friends, families and associates, and continue to enjoy doing what they love most.
