BenQ Shifts Focus to Color Accuracy During Display Summit Session at InfoComm 2015

COSTA MESA, Calif. — June 8, 2015 — BenQ America Corp., an internationally renowned provider of visual display solutions and the No. 1-selling projector brand powered by TI DLP(R) technology in The Americas(1), today announced that BenQ Senior Product Marketing Manager Felix Pimentel will present “Color Accuracy: The Missing Piece of the Projection Image Puzzle.” To be held on June 15 from 1:30 – 3 p.m. at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla., the discussion will be part of a session titled “Why Color Accuracy is Becoming More Important” at Insight Media’s Display Summit, taking place just prior to InfoComm 2015.

In his presentation, Pimentel will discuss how the projection industry should shift the focus to color accuracy instead of raw brightness. The session will go beyond traditional projector specs to explore how color gamut, white points, and other metrics offer consumers better ways of assessing display quality. Participants will gain insights into displays that are built to specific standards, including the sRGB color space, which ensures that color is consistently reproduced across different devices. Pimentel will also cover the relationship between today’s computing and imaging devices and offer reasons why the projection industry should embrace the sRGB standard. In addition, image evaluation survey results will reveal how and why viewers perceive a 2,800-lumen 100% sRGB color-accurate projector as being equally as bright as a 4,000-lumen conventional projector.

Pimentel joins a panel moderated by Chris Chinnock of Insight Media on “Why Color Accuracy is Becoming More Important.” The panel will address how the advent of narrower light sources as well as how the perception of solid-state light sources and color accuracy are transforming today’s approach to brightness and colorfulness — meeting the requirements of applications such as HDTV, digital cinema, UHDTV, or Internet/printing to impact image perception. Participants will also examine the fact that many new displays are capable of delivering wide color gamut, yet not all displays have preset modes that actually meet color space specifications. In addition, the session will review the results of a color accuracy test where participants will be asked to rate images via three unmarked lamp-based projectors. There will also be a talk by color scientist Abhay Sharma on how to map and quantify human color perception.

“InfoComm will be an important event for BenQ, and I look forward to participating in the Display Summit session,” said Pimentel. “Through the introduction of a full line of color-accurate sRGB projectors, BenQ continues to innovate, creating products that deliver the high level of performance and color continuity across all computing and imaging devices today’s consumers have come to expect.”

Felix Pimentel, DSCE, has over 20 years of experience in the projection industry. He has worked for industry leaders such as Christie Digital, Crestron Electronics, and InFocus. Pimentel is a SUNY at Stony Brook alumnus and currently resides in San Diego, Calif., with his wife and two small children.
