Walmart is expanding its massive Pickup Tower vending machines to an additional 80 locations, up from the 20 towers already installed.
The towers, which measure 16 feet tall by 8 feet wide, can hold items as large as a microwave, a company spokesman told TWICE. Consumers can select this pickup option from their computer or smartphone when making a purchase; to retrieve the item, they scan a barcode. Items that won’t fit in the tower will be brought out by a Walmart employee after the barcode is scanned.
The 100 towers will be in retail locations across the county, with all expected to be installed by the end of the year. According to Walmart, the chain has seen steady growth in consumer use.
