Walmart Introduces Its ‘Neighbors Helping Neighbors’ Program Allowing Shoppers To Help More Vulnerable Customers

Walmart has partnered with Nextdoor to make getting essentials more manageable for the more vulnerable among us.

In this age of the novel coronavirus, taking maximum precaution to avoid catching and spreading the virus is of utmost important. COVID-19 has claimed the lives of the young and healthy, but those among us who are older or who suffer from existing illnesses and conditions are particularly vulnerable and have an increased risk of succumbing to the virus.

Despite the coronavirus, everyday needs don’t cease to be essentials. People who should avoid going outside still need to get their food, medicine, and more, and every time they go out into society, they can potentially be exposing themselves to the virus.

To help alleviate that stress and reduce that risk, Walmart has introduced the ‘Neighbors Helping Neighbors’ program, with will allow Walmart shoppers to volunteer to help people identified as higher-risk get their essentials.

Walmart partnered with Nextdoor, the online neighborhood hub, to create the program. All requests for, or offers of assistance are done through the Nextdoor app.

How does the ‘Neighbors Helping Neighbors’ program work?

On the Nextdoor app, you can indicate if someone you know is in need of essentials or alternatively offer your help to get the essentials to a more vulnerable individual. Once you log on:

  • Click on the “Groups” tab to see Walmart stores and locations
  • To communicate need or and offer to help those in need, add a message to the group feed.
  • Connect to other members to work out details like what needs to be picked up, where it can be dropped off, and how.

Walmart is forging ahead with ways shoppers can stay safe and yet connected. One of the best ways to get your groceries is by opting for Walmart Grocery, which is one of the best grocery delivery services you can choose during this pandemic. Walmart offers curbside pickup too, so you can still get your groceries in a safe way. If you choose to participate in Walmart’s ‘Neighbors Helping Neighbors’ program, don’t forget to work out specifics like how the shopper will be paid, and how the essentials will be dropped off at the right location. Once you’ve gotten what you need indoors, look up the proper way to wash and disinfect them in our guide to cleaning your groceries.
