Kids across the country barely finished divvying up their Halloween plunder last night before retailers let loose their pre-Black Friday promotions.
Welcome to Black November!
Among those first out of the starting gate was Walmart, which released an “Opening Act” selection of 2,000 early holiday specials including a 55-inch Philips 4K LED TV for $398, a savings of $100, and an HP Pavilion Power 15.6-inch Full HD gaming laptop with Intel Core i7 processor for $849, from $999.

Meanwhile, kitchen appliances are apparently key for Costco, Home Depot and Lowe’s. The No. 1 warehouse club is taking $1,400 off a four-piece Samsung kitchen bundle in black stainless steel, among other deals, while the No. 1 home improvement chain is offering up the “lowest prices of the year” with up to 40-percent-off special-buy majaps.
Lowe’s, which tops them both in appliance sales, is countering with its own 40-percent-off deals and a gift-card rebate offer.
Among other Black November contenders, Newegg is back for its ninth year of staggered, month-long IT promotions. New for November are weekly Friday reveals of 20-50 forthcoming Black Friday deals, and a weekly livestream called Newegg Now that features discounts valid only during each one-hour episode.
In addition, Dell is offering “early access” to select Black Friday deals now through Nov. 2 and again Nov. 15-24, while all gaming, Alienware, XPS and Inspiron PCs will be 15 percent off Nov. 25-26.
