It’s just not Christmas without toys under the tree. The smart-toy industry is a bright spot for CE retailers, expected by Juniper Research to triple in hardware and app content revenue by 2022, reaching $15.5 billion worldwide. This up from a projected $4.9 billion in revenue by the end of this year. While U.S. toy sales got off to a slower start this year, according to The NPD Group, marketing events like Force Friday in September — and the box-office release of “The Last Jedi” and other licensing-friendly movies — are expected to propel overall toy revenue growth of at least 5 percent in the second half. We’ve rounded up some of the high-tech toys that are sure to be hot this holiday season, all of which are currently available.

For the past 12 months WalletHub, the personal finance site, has been tracking 16 consumer product categories and 16 leading retailers to determine the most heavily discounted merchandise in December.

The results have been distilled down to a top 10 list of the best holiday deals, featuring everything from rugs to refrigerators.

Perhaps not surprisingly, the No. 1 deal is neither an appliance nor home décor, but tech. And, more specifically, a TV.

The distinction belongs to Samsung’s UN58MU6071, a 58-inch 4K Ultra HD HDR model that will be on sale Dec. 15-24 at the Exchange (the Army & Air Force Exchange) for $549. The deal represents a discount of 50 percent over the TV’s year-long average street price, WalletHub said.

Another especially good buy this month is laptops, as represented on the Top 10 list at No. 7 by HP’s Pavilion X360 two-in-one convertible notebook with 15.6-inch screen, Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB memory and 1TB hard drive. The deal: $549 at Sam’s Club, representing a discount of more than 31 percent from the model’s trailing 12-month average price.

As for that refrigerator, it’s a 26.1-cubic-foot Kenmore French door model that Sears is selling for $1,169, or 38 percent off its year-long average. It came in third place, behind a white artificial Christmas tree from Wayfair.

WalletHub’s complete list, along with a collection of season-leading deals by category, has been posted on its site.
