Ultimate Earns Top DVD Dealer Award

Ultimate Electronics was named Best Retailer of the Year by the Digital Entertainment Group (DEG) during its first ever Creative Excellence Awards presentation, held here at The Bellagio Hotel earlier this month during CES.

The Colorado-based specialty A/V chain won retail honors for demonstrating excellence in merchandising and promoting new digital entertainment products during the calendar year, the trade association said. The selection was made based on nominations by DEG-member consumer electronics manufacturers.

“There were many retailers who helped make 2003 the most successful year ever for DVD hardware,” said DEG and Buena Vista Home Entertainment president Bob Chapek. “Our hardware members selected Ultimate Electronics for its dedication to educating consumers and creating excitement surrounding DVD and the home theater experience.”

Ultimate added DVD software to its A/V assortment last year as a means of boosting store traffic. The pilot test, said president and recently named CEO Dave Workman, has proven promising.

DEG also recognized four DVD titles for their sound, picture quality and value-added content, including “Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers;” “Steven Spielberg Presents: Taken;” “The Dick Van Dyke Show: Season 1;” and “Led Zeppelin DVD.”
