Sprint Plans To Add 500 Stores

Overland Park, Kan. — “Distribution growth is imperative” to adding subscribers, and Sprint plans to add 500 stores this year, CEO Marcelo Claure said.

During an investors’ conference call, Claure declined to comment on the potential to take over some RadioShack stores if the electronics chain files for bankruptcy.

Sprint has fewer Sprint-brand outlets than its competitors, Claure admitted. Sprint has 500 to 600 fewer than T-Mobile and 3,000 fewer than Verizon, he said.

There are three ways to attract new subscribers, Claure said: a high-quality network, compelling offers, and distribution.

In the 1990s, RadioShack stores offered Sprint service exclusively.
