Amid Sears’ myriad store closings, the company is opening new retail locations as well.
Two of the latest fall under its new Appliances & Mattresses specialty store format, which first surfaced last summer in Texas. The new additions formally opened last week in Camp Hill, Pa., and this past weekend in Honolulu.
Like their predecessor, the new stores showcase top majap and mattress brands in bright, spacious settings using home vignettes and interactive digital displays to help customers visualize how the appliances will look in their kitchens.
The stores are smaller than the original 20,000-square-foot Texas pilot, with Camp Hill coming in at 12,248 square feet and the Honolulu store measuring 16,200 square feet.
The company also opened a 10,000-square-foot appliance-only specialty store a year-and-a-half ago in Colorado.
“We’re delighted by the positive feedback we’ve received from our members around the [Colorado and Texas] stores,” said Leena Munjal, customer experience and integrated retail senior VP. At each of the just-opened locations, “The community will find an innovative, interactive shopping experience that showcases our leading array of appliances and mattresses, with the support of expert associates.”
The majap brand roster includes LG, Samsung, GE, Frigidaire, Electrolux, Bosch and its private-label Kenmore badge, but excludes the Whirlpool brand family including Whirlpool, Maytage, KitchenAid and Jenn-Air after the two longtime partners failed to come to new terms.
The stores also carry a selection of floor-care and air-quality products.
On the bedding side, mattress brands include Tempur-Pedic, Beautyrest, Sealy, Serta, Simmons and Stearns & Foster, which are merchandised along with pillows and other bedding products.
As in Sears’ full-line stores, customers can schedule appointments with sales associates and order products online that are unavailable in the showrooms with free shipping to their homes or nearest Sears or Kmart.
