Sears Hitching A Ride With Uber

Members of Sears Holdings’ Shop Your Way loyalty and shopping rewards program can now earn points when they ride with Uber.

Effective last month, riders who link their Uber account to Shop Your Way at shopyourway.com/uber will have the potential to receive unlimited Shop Your Way points, with up to $2 in points for every trip with Uber.

As an added incentive Shop Your Way members who sign up to ride with Uber for the first time will receive $5 in points. The partners are also awarding $10,000 in points each month through December to 1,000 random customers who’ve linked their accounts and used the transportation service as part of a special launch promotion.

The Rider Rewards program is currently available in Chicago and New York, with a nationwide rollout to follow.

As part of the pact, Sears Auto Centers will serve as one of Uber’s “Preferred Maintenance Providers” for its fleet of drivers, offering exclusive discounts and points. Uber drivers will receive 50 percent off all oil changes and 30 percent back in points on all labor at Sears Auto Centers.

“We are relentless in our pursuit to work with top-tier brands to bring more meaningful benefits to our members, and this agreement with Uber is a perfect example,” said Leena Munjal, senior VP, customer experience and integrated retail, at Sears Holdings. “Just as Uber uses technology to connect riders and drivers and revolutionized an industry, we’re using technology to surround our members with more opportunities to earn points and add value to their membership, whether they’re in a store, online or on-the-go.”

Interestingly, Sears has begun distancing its Sears and Kmart brands from the loyalty plan, which has become the focus of its turnaround strategy and reportedly accounted for 75 percent of company sales in the first half of the year.
