New Age Targets Emerging Technology

CARSON, CALIF. — New Age Electronics has developed a multipronged emerging-technology strategy supported by a dedicated team of seasoned veterans that focuses on wearable devices, home automation, robotics, appenabled devices and other emerging technologies.

“Through researching the hottest new products and recommending the most compelling offerings, New Age Electronics delivers the most innovative and cutting-edge possibilities to retailers and their customers and serves as a launch pad for emerging vendors looking to break into retail,” said president Fred Towns.

The national CE and IT distributor cited a Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) report indicating that emerging product categories will grow 107 percent and drive 65 percent of total industry revenue growth this year.

Almo To Carry U-Line

PHILADELPHIA — National majap and CE distributor Almo will carry the U-Line assortment of built-in modular ice making, refrigeration and wine preservation products in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast regions, effective July 1. The addition of U-Line and other premium residential kitchen and outdoor appliances is part of Almo’s Specialty Products initiative, the distributor said.

Brookstone Purchased For $136M

MERRIMACK, N.H. — Executive CE giftware chain Brookstone will be acquired for $135.7 million by a consortium led by Sailing Capital Overseas Investment Fund, with financing from GE Capital. The investors won the bidding at the bankrupt retailer’s June 2 auction, and plan to continue operating Brookstone as a stand-alone company and brand. The sale is subject to bankruptcy court approval and is expected to close by early July 2014.

Nationwide Adds EcoRebates Service

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The Nationwide Marketing Group has partnered with EcoRebates to provide its dealers with a tablet-based rebate and promotion search tool.

The comprehensive tool allows sales associates to identify for customers all savings offers, by both product and location, to help boost purchase decisions. Searches include state, local and utility-sponsored rebates for energy efficient appliances as well as vendor promotions, exclusive Nationwide deals and valuable “stacked” savings opportunities, the buying group said.
