Online Holiday Sales Expected To Rise 19%
New York — According to Jupiter- Research, online sales for November and December will reach $21.6 billion, a 19 percent increase compared to the same period last year. Eighty-six million U.S. residents are expected to make holiday purchases online this year, compared to 73 million last year, an 18 percent increase. Meanwhile, the 4th Annual eSpending Report, developed by Goldman, Sachs, Harris Interactive and Nielsen/NetRatings, put CE and PCs on the short list of sectors that will see the most online growth this season. Online shoppers spent about $3.7 billion on those categories last Christmas, the report said.
Office Depot To Trump Sweepstakes Winners
New York — Office Depot has teamed with OMD, Clear Channel Katz Advantage and Premiere Radio Networks for their most recent promotion, the Trumped! In New York sweepstakes. Shoppers can fill out entry forms in any of the more than 900 Office Depot stores to win what's described as a Donald Trump-themed first class trip to New York City. The grand prize includes round trip airfare for two, accommodations at the Trump International Hotel and Tower, a helicopter tour of New York, a limousine tour of "Trump-themed locations" and an HP digital camera. Radio stations in 29 markets will drive listeners to visit retail locations, and radio remotes will take place in select cities, some tying in to ribbon-cutting events at new Office Depot stores. The sweepstakes will run until Nov. 26.
Memphis Redesigns Web Site To Reflect Local Scene
Memphis, Tenn. — Memphis Car Audio has redesigned its Web site, www.memphiscaraudio.com, to reflect "the company's authenticity and musical heritage." Jeff Triplett, Memphis Car Audio's product manager, said, "We wanted our Web site to reflect the brand — something that is real and solid." The site has links to product information and reviews, car audio competition information, a dealer locator and a downloadable version of the product catalog. The site also contains links to Memphis music-related Web sites, including the Beale Street Caravan and Gibson Guitars.
AVAD Awards $40,000 In CEDIA Prizes
Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. — AVAD, the custom installation electronics distributor network, gave away more than $40,000 in prizes at CEDIA Expo 2004 in Indianapolis. Dealers who visited the group's booth were given a chance to win one of three daily Home Theater On a Pallet (HTOP) system drawings, as a well as an HTOP package given at the end of the show. The distributor also hosted its "Bet'cha Didn't Know" game show each day, giving contestants a chance to enter a daily drawing for a Sharp 15-inch AQUOS Wireless LCD TV. HTOP winners included A.B. $51,300 Raised For Elf Foundation
Hollywood, Calif. — A farewell party hosted by Stewart Filmscreen Corp. raised $51,300 for the Elf Foundation at the charity's annual live auction. The Elf Foundation is a non-profit group which helps build private entertainment theaters in U.S. children's hospitals through hardware and installation donations by vendors and dealers. Participants at the auction bid on donated products from Samsung, Runco International, Epson, Monster Cable, D-Box, Stewart Filmscreen, Faroudja, Denon, TV Authority and Anchor's Away. All high bidders received XM Satellite Radio's Roady IIs with one-year free activation.
