RadioShack Zapping PCs?

RadioShack is reportedly rethinking its merchandise mix.

According to Banc of America Securities retail analyst Aram Rubinson, the company is weighing its presence in several key categories — including PC hardware and certain consumer electronics — and is deciding if they represent the most productive use of its stores' limited space.

New categories under consideration include home networking products and printer cartridges, Rubinson reported, as well as the kind of novel, electronic do-dads sold by Sharper Image.

Enthusiasm for the latter may have been spurred in part by ZipZaps, a line of miniature radio controlled cars that were introduced last fall and sold out before Christmas. The customizable cars came in starter kits that sold for $19.99, while accessory packs were priced from $1.99 to $12.99.
