Los Angeles — Newegg.com has begun accepting bitcoin payments on its e-commerce site.
The e-tailer is partnering with BitPay to integrate the virtual currency into its operations. The Atlanta-based payment processor provides services to some 30,000 merchants, including fellow CE dealer TigerDirect.
Newegg, the largest online-only CE and IT specialty retailer, said the electronic currency provides another convenient and secure way for its customers to fulfill their e-shopping needs.
“Newegg’s customers are among some of the earliest bitcoin miners and are enthusiastic proponents of the crypto-currency,” said chief marketing officer Soren Mills. “Adopting bitcoin as a payment method is another way we’re responding to our customers’ diverse needs.”
Newegg said it selected BitPay for its reliability and scalability, and a platform that provides for payments as well as refunds and payment exceptions.
“Our partnership gives us the capabilities we require for high-volume e-commerce,” Mills said.
