Nationwide Holds First Management, Succession Conference

FORT WORTH, TEXAS —

Nationwide
Marketing Group is holding its debut
Business and Leadership Management
Conference here this week.

The event, which runs April 3-5 at the
American Airlines Conference Center,
is the buying group’s first standalone
forum to address succession and business-
management issues.

“No other organization in our industry
is offering this kind of educational opportunity
for independent dealers,” said
Nationwide president Robert Weisner,
who has assumed the additional title of
CEO. “Statistics have shown that only
a small percentage of these businesses
succeed into the second and third generation.
However, with proper succession
planning and business education,
our dealers can beat those odds.”

Weisner said the conference was designed
to teach the basics of running all
aspects of a business. Top-line managers
will learn how to assume a leadership
role in their company, he said, and
will use interactive presentations and
real-life exercises to demonstrate how
to correctly mentor employees.

Some 100 dealers had signed up for
the program at press time.

Nationwide member services director
Elly Valas said the turnout “demonstrates
that there is a clear need for this
type of education and that it is key for
the continued success of the independent
dealer.”

Conference courses included a halfday
financial management workshop led
by finance consultant Sandy Cloud, and
sessions on advertising, merchandising,
web marketing and customer service.

Valas said additional sessions will be
slated for later this year.
