Santa Monica, Calif. — Video & Audio Center debuted LG Electronics’ third-generation 79-inch Ultra HD TV at an in-store event here last night.
The Southern California specialty chain, along with LG executives Tim Alessi and Rick Calacci, hosted a standing-room-only crowd of consumers and media, who viewed a live 4K feed of Netflix’s “House of Cards” series streamed directly through the set.
Customers including Marlon Brando’s son Miko purchased eight of the $8,000 TVs within the first hour, with Video & Audio Center picking up the sales tax as part of a weekend-long launch promotion, corporate director Tom Campbell told TWICE.
The sets, which carry the model number 79UB9800 and feature HDMI 2.0 and the H.265 codec, will begin shipping next month.
