LittleBits, a New York-based tech startup that makes mechanical building-block toys, is getting a big marketplace boost.

Ingram Micro, the world’s largest tech distributor, has added the company to its line card and will offer LittleBits’ assortment of DIY mechanical kits to channel partners focused on the K-12 and higher education categories.

“The education vertical represents a sizable opportunity for the IT channel and is a strategic market for Ingram Micro and our channel partners,” noted Ryan Grant, the distributor’s senior director for components and document imaging.

Founded in 2011 by MIT graduate and TED Senior Fellow Ayah Bdeir, LittleBits’ seven snap-together kits and 67 interoperable modules are currently sold direct at littleBits.com and through retailers worldwide including Amazon, Barnes & Noble and MoMA.
