New Age Electronics Gets Kudos From Sharp

Carson, Calif.— New Age Electronics has been awarded the first ever Diamond Achievement Award as the top Master Distributor for the 2005 fiscal year from Sharp Document Solutions Company of America (SDSCA). “New Age has been a key partner with Sharp for more than two decades, and we recognize the company for its long-standing record of success,” said Doug Engberg, distribution VP for SDSCA. “Throughout our relationship New Age has shown a dedication to profitable growth through outstanding customer care.” New Age has been working with Sharp since the late 1980s, selling fax and copier machines. This year the relationship is expanding from the retail small office/home office division to their fax and copier group to sell Sharp into the second and third segment chains. As part of the agreement, New Age will train dealers to be certified resellers and set up a service department.

Novidor & Firestone Opens New Facility

San Rafael, Calif.— Novidor & Firestone, a leading West Coast manufacturers' representative firm specializing in high-end audio and video electronics, today announced they will open a branch serving the Pacific Northwest territory of the United States. “We are very excited to bring our experience and expertise to this new market,” said Glen O'Brien, president of Novidor & Firestone. “We have developed a strong presence in California, Nevada, Arizona and Hawaii and look forward to bringing our first-class service to the Pacific Northwest.” Novidor & Firestone will be managed by industry veteran Michael Bicak, who has 31 years of experience in the A/V retail industry, most recently spending 17 years with Good Guys. Some of the premium product lines available will include NEC, Escient, Xantech, Canton and Furman.

BDI-Laguna Opens Carlstadt Corporate HQ

Carlstadt, N.J.— BDI-Laguna opened its new headquarters and warehouse facilities with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by company executives and dealers from across the country. (See picture at right.) Located at 350 Starke Road in the Meadowlands Distribution Center, the new headquarters and warehouse total 65,000 square feet and are designed with warehouse management systems to deliver integrated programs to BDI-Laguna customers, the company said. The facility joins the company's other recently expanded facilities in Kenesaw, Ga. and Reno, Nev. BDI-Laguna also reported that it has added CTA Digital iPod and PlayStation Portable (PSP) accessories to its product lineup.

In other BDI-Laguna news, the company has added Fuji Photo to its range of digital cameras and accessories for retailers. “Fuji Photo products have always been a leader in the industry and BDI-Laguna is proud to represent them to our outstanding retailer and e-tailer customers,” said Joel Blank, executive VP of BDI-Laguna.

Brightpoint Q1 Sales Increase 21%

Plainfield, Ind.— Brightpoint, a leading global distributor of wireless products, reported first-quarter sales of $564.6 million, up 21 percent over the year-ago period. Net income for the quarter, ended March 31, increased from $2.9 million last year to $8.9 million, while income from continuing operations was $9 million, up from $5.1 million in the comparable quarter in 2005. Unit growth for the company's Americas division increased 82 percent, attributed to increased demand spurred by market growth of such fee based logistic services customers as Alltel, COMCEL, Cricket Communications, Metro PCS, Sprint Nextel, Tracfone and Virgin Mobile, and increased demand for, and availability of, Kyocera, Motorola, Nokia and Sony Ericsson products.

“I am very pleased with our performance in the first quarter,” said Robert Laikin, CEO, who raised full year sales projections to between 950 million units and 1 billion units.
