Ingram Micro Mobile
INDIANAPOLIS – Google has enlisted Ingram Micro Mobility to help launch its Project Ara modular smartphone platform later this year in Puerto Rico. The sustainability program uses customizable module options that can “continue to meet the consumer’s device needs” and help keep devices out of landfills, explained Ingram executive VP Bashar Nejdawi. The Ingram unit will handle Project Ara’s forward logistics, including product receipt, print customization of the device’s many modules, product assembly and consumer packaging, and delivery of devices to consumers and through additional channels, the distributor said.
MakerBot Says ‘Why Not’
NORTH SYRACUSE, N.Y. — CE, imaging and security distributor Wynit has added MakerBot’s array of 3D printers and scanners to its line card. The partnership covers the educational, engineering and design markets across North America. Included are MakerBot’s line of 3D Replicator printers, featuring desktop, m i n i -compact, Z18 and 2X Experimental models, as well as its Digitizer desktop 3D scanner, PLA and ABS filaments, and other 3D printing accessories. Wynit, based here, envisions the partnership as “a great opportunity to expand our expertise and service capabilities around 3D printing technology,” said Rick Slagle, the distributor’s purchasing, marketing and business development VP.
MED Alliance Plans
LAGUNA NIGUEL, CALIF. – The fledgling Mobile Electronics Distributor (MED) merchandising alliance will hold its charter meeting with 12-volt distributors in Dallas on May 7 and expects to hold a meeting with vendors in late summer.
During the May 7 event, to be held at the DFW DoubleTree Irving North, member distributors will approve the MED mission statement, bylaws, strategy for inviting vendors to join, a code of conduct, immediate action priorities, and mid-term priorities.
Ray Windsor, a 12-volt veteran who founded the group, said “a significant portion” of U.S. distributor territories “have been filled and will be represented at the MED charter meeting,” but a few territories remain open.
