Almo Expo Jumps Up

PHILADELPHIA — Almo, the national majap and CE distributor, reported a sharp spike in attendance at its regional trade shows this year.

The gains included a 43 percent increase at its Upper Midwest Expo in Minneapolis and double the turnout at its West Coast Expo in Los Angeles earlier this year.

The expos are private road shows that provide product previews, training, one-on-one meetings, special discounts and peer networking opportunities to Almo customers.

The distributor attributes their increased attendance to last year’s decision to reduce the number of regional events from six to four, and to make the remaining shows larger and their hours longer.

This year’s show highlights included new category offerings within the expos’ Home and Outdoor Living section; live demos by Samsung and Sharp; and indepth training sessions by Electrolux, Haier, LG and Samsung.

Almo is expected to post its 2015 show schedule shortly at Almo.com/Expo.

D&H Redesigns Website

HARRISBURG, PA. – D&H Distributing has relaunched its website with enhanced navigation, search, notification, and watch-list functionality.

The national IT and CE distributor said the revamped site, DandH.com, went live this week and delivers an improved customer experience through “a more intuitive and richly functional online offering.”

Updates include top-of-the-page drop-down menus; product browsing from any page; more customizable watch lists; discontinued item notification; and the addition of in-stock alerts to the site’s notification center.

“The website is a big part of our value proposition when it comes to making it easy for customers to do business with us,” said Jeff Davis, purchasing senior VP. “This redesign is a major development, enriching the look-and-feel of the site, expanding views, and incorporating more dynamic and versatile capabilities.

“Customer engagement has always been an ongoing priority,” he added, “so we’ll continue to focus on improved functionality.”

PowerHouse Adds Velodyne, Sets Fall Slate

PITTSBURGH — The PowerHouse Alliance, a national consortium of 13 regional distributors serving the CE and IT specialty dealers and custom installers, has added Velodyne Acoustics to its line card.

Velodyne’s line of high-performance, low-distortion sub-woofers is now available to all 13 PowerHouse members.

The new addition, announced earlier this month at CEDIA Expo 2014, follows the addition of Yamaha to the group’s brand roster in August.

PowerHouse labeled CEDIA a huge success for the group, which held sales meetings, reviewed fourthquarter initiatives and goals, and discussed new products and services at the Denver show.

“It was great having over 50 representatives from all 13 alliance members at this year’s convention,” said executive director Dennis Holzer. “We were excited to share all of the milestones we’ve reached collectively within the past year and display just how much we have grown. Having the opportunity to make new connections within the industry and spread the PowerHouse message is just one reason we come back to CEDIA every year.”

Added Chris Kovacek, a buyer for member distributor CTD Marketing: “This CEDIA was an impressive array of veteran dealers and fresh faces. The booth had great traffic, we’ve seen an increase in qualified leads, and we received great feedback about the strides the organization is making. We’re really looking forward to Dallas next year.”

Meanwhile, PowerHouse members continued to fill their calendars with dealer showcases, store openings and training events, including last month’s trainings by EDI in Seattle and Portland, Ore.; Mountain West in Salt Lake City; ECD in Austin; and a Volutone gathering in San Diego.

This month, distributors CED and 21st Century have slated separate events. CED (Consumer Electronics Distributors) will hold its 15th Annual Fall Ball at its Northbrook, Ill., facility on Oct. 15 and at its New Berlin, Wis., location on Oct. 16. The distributor will showcase the latest technology solutions in A/V, home entertainment, security and control, hold hourly product giveaways including LG tablets, and will provide a catered lunch and dinner. Synnex Q3 Revenue Up 29%

FREMONT, CALIF. — Global IT distributor Synnex, parent of New Age Electronics, reported a 29.3 percent increase in fiscal third-quarter revenue to $3.6 billion.

Net income for the three months ended Aug. 31 slipped 3.5 percent to $45 million.

Excluding the impact of acquisition and integration expenses and the amortization of intangible assets, net income (non-GAAP) rose 25.1 percent, to $62.5 million, representing the company’s 109th consecutive profitable quarter.

Within the technology solutions division, which houses CE and IT distributor New Age Electronics, revenue rose 19.1 percent to $3.2 billion and income before non-operating items, income taxes and noncontrolling interest increased 23.1 percent to $76.9 million, reflecting the integration of certain former Concentrix support and IT service operations.
