Conn’s Adding Seven More N.C. Stores

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Conn’s has big plans for the Tar Heel State.

The multiregional furniture, appliance and CE chain just opened its third location in the Charlotte market, and retail president David Trahan told the Charlotte Observer that seven more Home-Plus superstores are on the way statewide.

The new showrooms, which will be located in Charlotte, Fayetteville, Greensboro and Winston-Salem, will be supported by a 350,000-square-foot distribution center here.

“We’ve already made an investment there. We’re committed,” Trahan told the newspaper.

The retailer recently opened its fourth HomePlus store in neighboring Tennessee and, at the opposite end of its extended trading area, will soon open is seventh store in Colorado.

At last count Conn’s operated over 90 stores in 10 states and plans to open upward of 18 new locations in total this year.

The Texas-based company said it is recovering from the impact of the West Coast port labor dispute and tighter underwriting standards for its in-house consumer credit, which recently put a damper on same-store sales.
