BrandSource Sets Convention Agenda

Las Vegas — BrandSource, the $14 billion buying co-op for independent CE, appliance and home-furnishings dealers, has added a health and wellness component to its upcoming convention here in August.

The group will kick off its biannual gathering, slated for Aug. 24-27 at Caesars Palace, with a keynote by football great Joe Theismann, followed by three days of educational presentations and workshops, plus a new service offering that will focus on proactively improving health and wellness, BrandSource said.

“We live in a very fast-paced world where technology and gadgets are moving us along at breakneck speed, but that can backfire if you don’t have a good work-life balance,” said CEO Bob Lawrence. “This year, in addition to our terrific lineup of dynamic speakers offering insights to help members drive traffic and increase sales, we’re adding additional components to help them live healthier lives.”

On Aug. 26 and 27,  BrandSource will provide members with free health screenings by Health Designs, an award-winning provider of workplace wellness programs. The Health Designs team will conduct cholesterol, glucose and blood-pressure screening tests as well as BMI measurements. Individual results will remain confidential and will be reviewed one-on-one with each participating group member, along with personal health goals and educational materials. Members can schedule an on-site screening by visiting BrandSourceConvention.com and clicking on the Health Designs reservation link.

The health-theme will continue with a seminar that explores the five most common chronic diseases in the U.S. and the impact they have on business leaders, their teams and their families, while providing tips on how to proactively improve one’s health by taking preventive steps and working toward a living a better life.

Other show highlights include a Women In Business breakfast slated for Aug. 27 featuring Wendy Brown, web and social media manager at GE Appliances and Judith David, account executive for business and industrial markets at Google. The BrandSource show will also feature its popular 90-minute “Stampede” buy session for limited, one-time-only product deals, and attendees will be entertained by multi-platinum country music quartet Lonestar, appearing with original lead singer Richie McDonald.
