An Amazon Primer In Prime

A little crowing is called for.

Amazon’s $99/year Prime member loyalty program hit some major milestones in 2017, and the No. 1 e-tailer is only too happy to share them.

According to the company, more than 5 billion items were shipped worldwide via Prime in 2017.

Amazon has also doubled the number of items now eligible for “free” unlimited two-day shipping, from more than 50 million to over 100 million. In addition, one-day and same-day shipping is now available at no extra charge to Prime members in more than 8,000 U.S. cities and towns, and two-hour delivery via Prime Now is offered in more than 30 major metro areas.

To handle all that commerce, Amazon increased its global fulfillment and shipping network by more than 30 percent in square footage, and now boasts an armada of over 6,000 trailers and 32 Amazon Air planes in the U.S. alone.

And what did Prime members do with their memberships? In the U.S., they made Amazon’s Fire TV Stick and Echo Dot the best-selling products bar none among Prime members last year; made “Manchester by the Sea” the most watched Amazon Original Movie; and put “Believer” by Imagine Dragons and “Something Just Like This” by The Chainsmokers & Coldplay atop Prime Music’s most-played song list.
