Amazon Locked And Loaded For Holidays

Amazon.com is primed and ready for a holiday onslaught in CE.

VP Paul Ryder, the e-tailer’s recently named head of consumer electronics and wireless, told TWICE that Amazon’s Electronics Store is ramped up and “bracing for people pushing back to the last minute.”

A veteran of GE Appliance with responsibilities in merchandising, repair service, extended warranties and online initiatives, Ryder will have a number of new programs to support his first holiday season at Amazon. Among them, the site has begun offering interest-free financing on select TVs and audio products through the Amazon.com credit account.

Amazon has also expanded its new Click-to-Call service to include audio products in addition to TVs. The feature allows customers to schedule a callback from a product specialist by clicking on a “Call Me” link on specific product detail pages.

The company also continues to offer white glove delivery on TVs 27 inches and larger through Eagle Global Logistics. Amazon is still examining a custom installation option.

In addition, Amazon provides free shipping on select CE products and orders over $25, and for $79 annually customers can join Amazon Prime, which provides unlimited two-day shipping on most items at no additional charge and overnight delivery for $4.

Amazon’s Electronics Store also provides a wealth of data on products and purchasing behavior, which can aid both shoppers and marketers. Information includes buying guides and product descriptions, consumer reviews and forums, and statistics on product sell-through.

In addition, partnerships with scores of retail affiliates — including latest addition ShopNBC — serve to expand Amazon’s CE assortment to hundreds of thousands of products.

“The new features are focused on making it easier than ever for customers to make an informed buying decision,” Ryder said. He promised further enhancements and incentives as Christmas gets closer, such as the holiday-themed penguin and snowfall design that now tops each page.
