XYZprinting Debuts Its 1st 3D Printing Pen; Launches da Vinci Jr. 3-in-1

XYZprinting is making 3D printing a little more portable with its new da Vinci 3D Pen.

The pen, which has a $49.95 suggested retail, is meant to enable freehand creation without requiring a computer. Simon Shen, CEO of XYZprinting and New Kinpo Group, said the pen is meant to make 3D-printing technology more attainable for the average user.

With a push of a button, the non-toxic, biodegradable PLA filament passes through the heated tip of the pen to create a malleable line, cooling quickly for users to build upon a 3D design.

The company also announced the da Vinci Jr. 1.0 3-in-1, a variation of its earlier entry-level da Vinci Jr. 1.0. The new 3D printer ($549) features a built-in laser scanning module and optional laser engraver ($199). The 3D scanner has a resolution of up to 0.25mm, while the optional laser engraver add-on lets users to make their own impressions on soft materials such as leather, cork, cardboard, and some woods and plastics.

The printer, which is positioned toward beginners looking to make the move toward more advanced methods of prototyping, is currently shipping.
