New York — XYZprinting has formally launched what it described as the “best-valued” 3D printer available for public purchase.
Its new da Vinci Junior 1.0, introduced at the 2015 International CES where it won a TWICE Picks Award, carries a $349 street price and is now available at retail through Amazon.com. Its launch was timed to today’s Inside 3D Printing Show, here, where it is on display.
Besides making 3D printing affordable for a wider audience, the Junior 1.0, through its simplified design, is also aimed at educators, families, hobbyists, first-time 3D designers and younger consumers, the company said.
*an all-enclosed printing area and non-heated bed that provides a safe printing environment;
*no assembly and zero calibration required;
*a new auto-loading filament system with low-level alert; and
*a one-click, fast-release extruder for easy cleaning or replacement.
XYZ said the model is the quietest of all 3D printers to date, making it optimal for classroom or home use. The unit is also environmentally friendly, consuming only 75 watts of power and utilizing the company’s new biodegradable PLA filaments that print materials at very low temperatures.
The da Vinci Junior 1.0 weighs 26.5 pounds and measures 16.5 by 15 by 16.9 inches; it can print from a computer or directly from an SD card. XYZ, a unit of Taiwanese OEM New Kinpo Group, supports its printers with a Cloud-based design gallery offering thousands of 3D models, as well as a free 3D model creation app called XYZrobo, available on Google Play and the Apple App Store, that gives users the ability to create interlocking blocks for personalized, motion-capable robots and figurines.
Three additional versions of the unit will be released later this year, including a wireless model, the company said, as it makes the da Vinci Junior series a main focus for 2015.
