Vivitar Bows Video Projectors

Vivitar introduced a video-projector line including several models focused on home theater presentation.

In all, the new compact video projectors will include two LCD-based models and a DLP model.

The DP-1500X is an LCD-based model billed as “the first model in a series of projector products” that Vivitar will announce this year. Originally unveiled at PhotoKina in Cologne, Germany last September, the projector weighs 7.5 pounds and produces 1,024 by 768 (XGA) pixel resolution at 1,800 lumens of brightness. Inputs include component video, VGA and DVI.

A picture-in-picture (PIP) feature enables users to project both computer graphics and video source material simultaneously, either side-by-side or in separate windows. The DP-1500X will ship in February at a $2,999.95 suggested retail price.

Joining it in February will be two additional models — the DP-1200X LCD projector with 1024×768 resolution at $3,699 and the DLP-2100X DLP front projector with 1024-768 resolution at $3,699.

The DLP-2100X is a compact 2100 lumen projector with a contrast ratio of 1500:1 and weighing under 6 pounds, making it the highest performance projector in the new product line, reported Vivitar Product Manager, Tom Piehn.

The DLP-2100X produces 2,100 lumens, of brightness and 1,500:1 contrast ratio. It includes PIP.
