In yet another major change in the appliance industry's executive ranks, Maytag chairman/CEO Lloyd Ward has tapped former Polaroid executive Carole Uhrich to head Maytag's new Home Solutions group.
In her role as executive VP of Maytag and president of Maytag Home Solutions, Uhrich will oversee the company's major appliance and floor care operations, a combined $3.5-billion business, according to Maytag. Bill Beer, president of Maytag's major appliance division, and Keith Minton, president of the floor care division, will report to Uhrich, who in turn reports directly to Ward.
Her appointment, effective January 1, makes Uhrich the highest-ranking woman among the full-line appliance manufacturers.
Uhrich has been a member of Maytag's board of directors since 1995 and will continue to serve in that capacity. She spent 33 years with Polaroid, most recently as executive VP and assistant chief operating officer, before resigning in May.
Ward said Uhrich "brings an accomplished strategic and operating background to Maytag." And because she served on the company's board, "she also has the benefit of knowing Maytag and our strategic direction, which will make the learning curve shorter and provide the opportunity for a more immediate impact."
