Netgear bowed two wireless-N routers here at International CES, in the Las Vegas Convention Center’s South Hall 4, booth 36270MP.
The wireless-N router with DSL modem — Mobile Broadband edition, model number DGN2200M — is an 802.11n wireless router with dual Internet access options. Users have the option of connecting via its integrated DSL modem or with a high-speed cellular connection that can be established through a 3G, 4G or WiMax USB dongle.
The wireless router has an automatic failover feature to switch networks from DSL to cellular during an outage. The DGN2200M also features a broadband-usage meter to calculate data usage, and free Live Parental Controls, a router-based Web and parental filtering solution that is said to block up to 50 categories of Internet content for any device on the network, from a single Web-based interface. Its multiple SSID capability even enables users to set up multiple Wi-Fi networks within a small business. The device, a CES 2010 Innovations Award Honoree, will be available in April at a suggested $179.
Netgear’s mobile broadband wireless-N router, model number MBRN3000, is similar to the DGN2200M, but it does not have an integrated DSL modem or the automatic failover feature. This device will be in stores in March at a suggested $129.
