Toshiba Digital Products slashed the entry cost for consumers interested in buying into their Qosimio Media Center notebook line with the introduction of its newest model, the G35-AV600.
The AV600 will carry a street price of $2,399, $600 lower than earlier versions, the company said. The units began shipping this week.
The notebook features for the first time on a Toshiba notebook a 1-bit digital amplifier. Other multimedia functions include a TV tuner, Dolby Home Theater sound, bass reflex speakers and a 17-inch display. The notebook runs on an Intel Centrino Duo Mobile processor and has twin 80GB hard drives, an nVidia GeForce G0 7300 256MB VRAM graphics card and 1GB of DDR2 memory.
The optical drive is a double layer, dual format DVD burner, and the notebook includes a five-in-one media reader.
Weighing in at 10.1 pounds, the AV600 is intended for use as a desktop replacement unit, not a mobile computer.
