Irvine, Calif. — Toshiba will start shipping the Canvio Connect portable external storage device next month.
The device, which is about the size of a smartphone, can back up data and allows access to share and stream a person’s content to other portable devices, said Jacky Lee, product manager, Toshiba branded storage.
The Connect will replace the Canvio 3.0 in the market when it ships in May. It will be available in four size capacities: 500GB, $99; 750GB, $109; 1TB, $129; and 2TB, $189. The models will come in red, blue, black and silver.
The bundled software is similar to what came with the 3.0 version, with the addition of the ability to remotely access and share the data. This can be done between computers via a website and with apps for Apple and Android phones and tablets, Lee said.
Toshiba is also including 10GB of free lifetime Cloud storage with each purchase.
