MINNEAPOLIS -Target Stores will begin selling the Handspring Visor this month in its Arizona locations, with a national rollout due later this year.
Target, which has headquarters here and operates 978 outlets, will carry a full line of Handspring Visors, modules and accessories. Other national retailers carrying the Visor include Best Buy, CompUSA and Staples.
Also new for the Visor is a fully wireless e-mail and Internet solution for Handspring by OmniSky. Yesterday, OmniSky began shipping a CDPD modem (the Novatel Minstrel S) for the new Visor Platinum and Prism models, which will allow wireless access to up to six POP3 e-mail accounts. The service also offers links to nearly 1,000 websites, with many that have been adjusted for viewing on a handheld.
The OmniSky modem, which snaps into the Springboard port on the Visor, will be available in close to 1,400 stores by mid-November. It became available at www.omnisky.com yesterday. Stores expected to carry the modem include AT & T Stores, CDW, CompUSA, DataVision, Franklin Covey, Fry’s Electronics, J & R Computer World, Micro Center, PC Connection, RCS Computer Experience, Staples and Amazon.com.
The company also announced a new holiday promotion where customers who purchase a Visor Platinum or Visor Prism, plus the OmniSky modem and service by Jan. 31, 2001 can receive a $300 mail-in rebate.
