A just-released special deluxe DVD edition of Pink Floyd - The Wall is the subject of a new DVD cross-promotion between Columbia Music Video and Sony Electronics.

The two sister companies kicked off the December 2 title debut - and the 20th anniversary of the film's theatrical release - with a New York press conference, where James Gutherie, the film's music co-producer, and primary producer of the new DVD, discussed the many features of the latest title.

Gutherie said the DVD was encoded from a high-definition film transfer, including previously unreleased deleted scenes. Also included is a remastered 5.1-channel Dolby Digital surround sound music track and two behind-the-scenes documentaries on the making of the film.

Another rare feature is a scene-by-scene running audio commentary from film animator Gerald Scarfe and former Pink Floyd member Roger Waters, who wrote the film script and composed and performed most of the songs in the film and best-selling double-album version of The Wall.

Present at the press conference was Mike Fidler, Sony A/V marketing senior VP, who said his group will share in the cross-promotion using Sony's currently shipping five-disc DVD changers. Discs will be made available to dealers for special "giveaway" promotions.

Columbia executives said they will support the disc's release with national consumer print advertising spots.
